A Review of Krzysztof Kieslowski’s Dekalog

Richard Watkins

2021, 5 pages, no ill

Made in Poland in the late 1980s by Krzysztof Kieslowski, Dekalog consists of ten one-hour episodes each of which focuses on one of the ten commandments in a contemporary setting in Poland. It is widely regarded as one of the best fims ever.

It is available on DVD and Blue-ray disks; the Blue-ray set having much additional material.

Kieslowski and his co-writer Piesiewicz interpret the commandments in an unusual but compelling way. As a result, each episode has to be viewed a number of times in order to appreciate the messages in it.
