Frederic Japy
Patents for Watchmaking Machines
Frederic Japy established a factory in Beaucourt (France) and mass-produced watches and clocks; he is reputed to have manufactured about 40,000 watch movements per year during the 1790s. Published in 1799, Japy's patents describe ten machines for manufacturing watch components.
This translation is based on "Brevet d'Invention de Cinq Ans, pour diverses machines d'horlogerie", an eleven page document with four plates.
